Mastodon

-- The most brutal tour in the history of metal will not be coming to Tampa Bay. Mastodon and Dethklok will come to Hard Rock Live in Orlando on Nov. 7, but no closer.

-- Same with the Mountain Goats and Final Fantasy: Orlando (The Social), and that's it. Sigh.

-- A few months ago, Tampa ska outfit Johnny Cakes and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypso won a contest to have their music featured on Tijuana Flats' Web site. It's happening this month. Head to TijuanaFlats.com, and you'll hear Johnny Cakes' song Long Island Iced Tea Island. Cool for them.

-- Thanks to their new video for Stay Young, Bradenton's We the Kings are tearing up the Twitterverse. "#hairwhips" is one of Twitter's top trending topics. Just watch the video -- and Danny Duncan's hairwhips at 0:34 -- and you'll see what we mean.

-- Unfortunate news out of Orlando: Talented indie-popsters Band Marino have broken up.

-- Tickets to Leonard Cohen's Oct. 19 concert at the St. Pete Times Forum will be priced at $46.75, $71.75, $125 and $250, with VIP packages starting at $299. They go onsale Monday, Aug. 10, via Ticketmaster.

-- Tampa's Underoath reflects on 15 years of the Warped Tour.

-- Congrats to Tampa rapper Acafool, who was named Artist of the Week at IndieMusicUniverse.com.

-- Creative Loafing's music blog, Tampa Calling, is being folded into its main blog, The Daily Loaf.

-- Congratulations to the winner of Orlando Weekly's Best of Orlando awards, including the Legendary JC's, Pulp the Party mastermind DJ Pauly Crush, and recent Soundcheck Artists of the Day Matt Butcher and Mumpsy.

-- Soundcheck's Aunt Sharon from Whoa, Momma! describes how Monday's Green Day concert at the St. Pete Times Forum was her son's first. "It's all downhill from here, kid," she writes. Check out her review.
