News: The Queers, Journey, Styx and more
-- Coming once again to the Ford Amphitheatre: Styx and REO Speedwagon, on Oct. 30. Tickets are $19.50-$59.50. You know our Wacky Uncle Steve is all over this one. And coming to Orlando's Amway Arena on Sept. 23: Journey, above. Tickets are $36-$126.
-- Oh, hey, you know who's NOT coming to Tampa? Paul McCartney, the Breeders, Grizzly Bear, Moby, Andrew Bird, Jamie Foxx (although he IS coming to Orlando on Aug. 30), Living Colour, Sunny Day Real Estate, the Flaming Lips, Snow Patrol and Ghostface Killah/Method Man/Redman. But hey, at least we got Styx. That makes up for everything!
-- Broken Self, the Paramore-styled grunge quintet that featured drummer James Ferrell of Triptico (tbt*'s Ultimate Local Band for 2009), has called it a career. Ferrell explains why -- no one seemed to care anymore -- on the band's MySpace blog.
-- Stop by Vinyl Fever in Tampa tonight. There's a listening party for the Dead Weather's new album, Horehound, at 7 p.m. They'll be giving away pizza, promo goodies and a vinyl copy of the album. (No word, however, on any listening parties involving Lakota Brick.)
