News: Rye Rye, the Postmarks, DJ Mingle Mixx and more

-- Admittedly, we didn't know squat about Canadian DJ Deadmau5 (although a quick Google search reveals he apparently has his own iPhone remixing app). But then we saw a few photos of the man like the one above, and we gotta say ... we're suddenly intrigued by his upcoming performance Nov. 15 at the Ritz Ybor. Looks like it could be a Rabbit In the Moon-style performance. No ticket details have been announced just yet.

-- We'd heard it was a family emergency, but now we know the real reason Rye Rye canceled her gig with A-Trak the other night at Crowbar: Her eggo was preggo, homeskillet. "Yes I was blessed with a child," she wrote on her MySpace blog. "At first I was teary eyed and my first thought was to get rid of it. I asked God for guidance and I went to the hospital 4 times and each time i had a breakdown and i knew what direction God was pulling me in. WHAT GOD HAS FOR YOU, NOBODY CAN TAKE!!! AND HE DOESN'T GIVE YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN HANDLE." The whole post is worth a read.

-- In case you hadn't heard, St. Pete schoolteacher Casey Turner, better known to local clubgoers as DJ Mingle Mixx, landed one of 12 spots on the season of Big Brother that kicked off Thursday night. His Web site is down for construction, but you can check out some of his mixtapes here.

-- Are you a drummer who's looking for work? Why not join Tampa pop-punks the Woodwork?

-- Miami's Postmarks drop a new single, and get a pretty amazing review in the New York Post.

-- More reflections on Michael Jackson from local rockers Falling Awake, Glasgow, and the Genitorturers.

-- Sean Daly says: The Rays' postgame concert winning streak will end this weekend, with Smash Mouth. Secretly, we're hoping it's the other way around -- that the Rays will put an end to Smash Mouth.

-- Rise of Saturn are a rising local reggae-rock troupe, made up of members of Weaksauce and Soulfound. Now you can download a couple of their rising songs for free. Then rise on over to Gasoline Alley to see 'em perform on July 18. Rise rise rise.
