NewSong's Billy Goodwin talks Winter Jam, Christian crossover artists and ticketless seating

Winter Jam 2012 arrives Saturday at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, with hosts NewSong welcoming headliners Skillet (a recent crossover success) and Sanctus Real, among others. Click here for details on the show.

ack in 1995, before Jesus-rock seeped into mainstream radio, Winter Jam was a long shot. NewSong's idea to host a ticketless concert at a venue other than a church seemed like a gamble.

"From the beginning, we wanted to try and remove any barriers that would keep people from coming," said NewSong's Billy Goodwin. "Music is really the language that speaks to the kids, and the message in our music is consistent: Jesus lived and died for us all. If people come to our show, we're not going to turn them away because they can't afford a ticket. We think it's important that people hear what we have to say."
