No pressure over cappuccino: Folger's wants to give one musician $25,000

We here at SoundcheckCorp. normally shy away from corporate-backed song contests. MUSIC IS ART, MAN, NOT A COMMODITY. (/high-fives destitute, Ramen-eating self)

But any contest that gives us the opportunity to post the above video of Rockapella -- featuring Tampa's own Scott Leonard -- singing the Folger's Coffee jingle is just too much to pass up.

Yes, Folger's is holding a jingle contest. On Jan. 19, amateur musicians can submit their best version of the Folger's jingle -- "The best part of waking up ... is Folger's in your cup!" -- for the chance to win $25,000 and have their music appear in a commercial. One of the judges? None other than American Idol's Kara DioGuardi.

(If this contest is a success, perhaps Mennen will launch a similar contest for its jingle -- although we're pretty sure this guy would take the title).

The Folger's contest is one day only, Jan. 19, so act quickly. Click here for details.

Maybe Lakeland's Copeland should enter. They've got a lovely song called Coffee on their album Beneath Medicine Tree:

If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see...

Or Tampa punks New Bruises, who have a song called Coffee With a Side of Confrontation:

3 AM, I'm not sleeping
Cold shakes, my ears are ringing
From loud music and caffeine late last night...

We could also nominate Lake Worth's Truckstop Coffee, Tampa's Al "Coffee" McDaniel or Melbourne jam trio Brother Bean. But the more we think about it, Scott Leonard should enter. Rockapella seems to have this thing all sewn up.
