Lady Gaga has inspired college courses and meditations on fame. Her music -- while not exactly mold-breaking -- is still insanely catchy. And she's an undeniable fashion muse.

So it goes without saying that the pop icon's concert Saturday night at the St. Pete Times Forum is a big deal (who knows -- maybe she'll even fall off a piano?). But it wasn't always earth-shattering news when she came to town.

In May 2008, Lady Gaga came to G.Bar in Ybor City. It was our introduction to the woman who would one day take over pop music. Here's how tbt*'s Carole Liparoto described her while previewing the show in that week's edition of Soundcheck:

Lady Gaga: Your favorite new dirty-pop pleasure, or everything that's wrong with the current music biz? We'll leave that up to you. On her glam number Just Dance, featuring Colby O'Donis and Akon, she says when you overindulge at the club, can't see straight, lose your cell phone, etc. -- just dance it off. Expect more Gaga soon, as she co-wrote and sings on the upcoming New Kids on the Block track Big Boy/Big Girl. For now, she'll bring a style she calls "retro sexual" to Ybor gay and lesbian club G. Bar.

"Retro sexual?" A NKOTB collaboration? Man, that seems like an alternate universe or something.

But in fact Lady Gaga DID come to G.Bar just three short years ago. In fact, we have proof. We asked around, and Greg Anderson from Florida Entertainment Group was kind enough to share some of G.Bar's photos from that night.

This weekend, as you're watching Gaga explode out of an egg, or whatever she decides to do, you can reflect on a simpler time, when she wasn't afraid to perform nearly solo with her Disco Stick, or just chill with fans in the club. Check out some photos from the wayback machine after the jump.
