Photos: Ellis Paul kicks off the Live From Lowes concert series at the Don CeSar Beach Resort

The Don CeSar Beach Resort isn't your typical concert venue, but over the past year, it has welcomed in the occasional singer-songwriter as part of its Live From Lowes concert series. The concept: Pick up a ticket, and enjoy a beachside evening of tunes and music by the Don CeSar pool. It's co-presented by Backline Music Group, the same company that's aiming to bring live music festivals to Williams Park in St. Petersburg.

On Friday, Boston singer-songwriter Ellis Paul kicked off the series with a solo set of lovely, rustic, Celtic-tinged folk ditties, as a crowd of VIPs and invited guests sipped custom cocktails and tried to escape the drizzling rain. If you missed him, Paul will also perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Musicale, 809 Horatio St. in Tampa. Tickets are $25. Click here.

As for the Live From Lowes series, here are some other shows to look out for: Chris McCarty (March 9), Shawn Mullins (April 14), Jason Reeves (May 26) and Ellis Paul again (Sept. 29 and 30). Edwin McCain and Sixpence None the Richer's Leigh Nash have been mentioned as possible future acts, though nothing is set yet.
