The Pretty Reckless coming to the State Theatre in St. Petersburg
Taylor Momsen is not exactly everyone's idea of a good teenage role model.
Since her mid-teens, the former Gossip Girl actress has been called a "pathetic brat" (by Tim Gunn, no less!) for antics like underage smoking, talking about vibrators and flashing the crowd, and outfits that include raccoon-eye makeup, fishnets, stripper heels, "I F--- For Satan" shirts and more (or, um, less, depending on how you look at it). But come on -- who among us DIDN'T experiment with fishnets and stripper boots during our teenage years, am I right? Right? (*crickets*)
Anyhoo, Momsen, now 18, has been slowly building cred for her alt-punk band, The Pretty Reckless. Last fall they toured with Evanescence. In 2009, Spin said she looked "like Debbie Harry and (sang) like Kim Carnes doing Karen O." And when she played the Warped Tour that year, we wrote:
Taylor Momsen really can sing, no joke. For those who must know such things, she was wearing teeny-tiny denim shorts with a beige corset/haltertop, long black stockings and hot pink heels that limited her mobility so badly, she literally had to be dragged to the stage by a roadie. It was all an excercise in futility, since the audience couldn't see her shoes anyway.
But now -- NOW! -- you can finally get a look at those shoes, as well as the rest of Momsen's sure-to-be-controversial ensemble. The Pretty Reckless are coming to the State Theatre in St. Petersburg on April 22. The Parlor Mob will open the show. Tickets are $15. Click here to get 'em.
