Random concert of the year (so far): Snoop Dogg coming to Bourbon Street

Loyal readers may recall our 2009 WTF Concert of the Year: Smokey Robinson on Ice at the St. Pete Times Forum. (Seriously. We're still trying to wrap our heads around that one.)

We know it's early, but we already have a very solid candidate for our 2010 WTF Concert of the Year: Snoop Dogg is coming to New Port Richey.

With so much drama in the N-P-R, it's kinda hard being Snoop D-O-double-G...

Yes, evidently, tha Doggfather is coming to Bourbon Street on Feb. 8. Tickets go onsale Monday at noon; they'll cost $37 advance, $42 at the door. Click here to see the details.

Look, we have nothing against Bourbon Street, or the fine people of Pasco County. It's a lovely nightclub, surrounded by tattoo shops and dead frogs and whatnot. We enjoy our times there.

But the time has come when we must ask ourselves ... should we be worried about Snoop Dogg? We were concerned last year when we saw Snoop Dogg OPENING for Slightly Stoopid, not the other way around. Is there a reason, say, the Ritz Ybor wasn't interested? Or the State Theatre? Or the Cuban Club? (Aside, of course, from the copious amounts of ganja that Snoop would no doubt bring to the club.) Come on, he's playing Hard Rock Live in Orlando the very next night! That's a major concert venue!

Snoop has played Jannus Landing in the past, and Bourbon Street did snatch up some of their shows in the past few months. But it's still hard to picture Snoop performing in a club better known for washed-up rock acts like Stryper and Seven Mary Three. If nothing else, we are tickled by the notion that he has to drive up U.S. 19 to get there.

So until further notice, Snoop Dogg in New Port Richey is Soundcheck's WTF Concert of the Year. Until 50 Cent hits the Dallas Bull, we think he's got it in the bag.
