Red Bull turns USF students into desktop beatmakers with Tum Tum Pa competition
What do you get when you cross a bunch of college students, a bunch of Red Bull and a bunch of pencils, notebooks and empty cans?
You get beats. Delicious beats. Beats that make you want to bob your head throughout Poli Sci 101.
That was the scene at the University of South Florida on Tuesday, where groups of students tried to prove they had rhythm at Red Bull's Tum Tum Pa competition. Teams competed to create the best Office Depot-style beats on songs like In Da Club or Ice Ice Baby, with the winner getting a chance to move on to a world competition in Brazil.
"No professional equipment, no digital sound," said Tampa rapper Mike Mass, who hosted the event. "This is old-school, cafeteria-classroom style."
