Review: 50 Cent brings the noise to Jannus Live
Has the shine come off 50 Cent?
Depends on who you ask. There was a crowd of about 1,000 at for the rapper's concert Wednesday night at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg. According to our own Luis Santana, that's a smaller crowd than the one that turned out at Jannus Live for Gucci Mane a few weeks ago.
On the other hand, Sean Daly was also on hand, and he reports that Fiddy's raucous two-hour show was "so loud, so boisterous, so defiant" that he's amazed Jannus Live is still standing:
Backed by a DJ, hypemen and at times a live band — which merely made things LOUDER — he spat out his catchy hits with the party-pumping hooks (Baby By Me, P.I.M.P., Ayo Technology). Lest we forget his generosity, he also performed snippets of hooks he recorded for other people's songs (Lil' Kim's Magic Stick, Tony Yayo's Pass the Patron).
Despite the overwhelming bass and general racket, the crowd — a mix of young kids, decked-out ladies and stoic rap aficionados there to see if he still had it — shouted back every word.
Hmm. Wonder how all that concert noise is going to go over down at City Hall? As we know, Mayor Bill Foster hasn't been afraid to beef with 50 Cent in the past. Wonder what he'll have to say about Wednesday's show.
