Review: American Idols Live brings Michael Lynche, Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox and more to the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa

With all this hullaballoo about who's coming to American Idol, it's easy to forget that the real stars of the show are the ones who emerge as Top 40 contenders.

Wednesday at the St. Pete Times Forum, a handful of those artists came by as part of the annual American Idols Live tour, including winner Lee DeWyze and St. Petersburg's own Michael Lynche. Sean Daly was there, and he writes that while there were a few highlights, the concert only served as a reminder why American Idol has lost much of the spark that made it a sensation:

It might have stopped some bleeding if the contestants — 10 of which from the ninth season were at the St. Pete Times Forum on Wednesday — had a bit more charisma. It's bad when you're longing for the dulcet tones and lightning-struck hair of Amanda Overmyer.

In ye olden days of the Idol tour, group sings dominated. Now it's mostly about the solo spotlight, shoving 'em out there in doinking order.
