Review: Lil Wayne brings funk, flair and flavor to Tampa's 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre

When we last saw Lil Wayne, he, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and a cast of thousands were tearing up the new Amway Center in Orlando. That was after a few, um, false starts about him coming to Tampa.

But on Wednesday, Weezy -- minus Minaj, but with Ross, Keri Hilson, Far East Movement, Lloyd and Ace Hood -- finally made good on a long-awaited return trip to Tampa, with a gig at the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre. Sean Daly was among the 12,500 fans who turned out, and he writes:

He's cuddly! Adorable even! He's also a heck of a showman, making sure people got bang for bucks. ... He's an original, a transcender of genre for whom rhyming is a full-body pursuit. He first appeared onstage wearing one red shoe, one blue shoe, rocketing out the fury of I'm Goin' In and Bill Gates. He's a self-made millionaire who sees opportunity on one side, violence on the other — but has a Bugs Bunny cartoon rolling in the cinema of his brain at all times.
