Review: Robyn at the Ritz Ybor in Tampa

Konichiwa, bitches! Swedish hipster-popster Robyn came to the Ritz Ybor in Tampa Sunday night during a thoroughly unexpected trip through Florida, and through a stylin' set and two encores, she delighted those fans who turned out on a school night.

Nick Bennett of our sister publication tb-two* was at the show, and after a too-long wait for Robyn to appear onstage, she surfaced, delighting the crowd, most of whom were in their 20s:

When Robyn skipped onto the stage, dressed in a seriously snazzy Body Talk jacket, the wait was more than worth it. As she launched into Fembots, I could hear the crowd reacting with the same sentiment. Robyn sings with an almost Ian Curtis-like intensity, here soulfully launching into a refrain, here collapsing in a wave of emotion, and always with clearly apparent dedication to her craft.
