Ruth Eckerd Hall: Anita Baker cancels, but ticket deals abound on Saturday

Grammy-winning R&B icon Anita Baker has canceled her March 25 show at Ruth Eckerd Hall, according to venue officals. No reason was given; refunds will be offered at point of purchase.

But that's not the main reason we're writing about Ruth Eckerd Hall today. No, it turns out Saturday is the venue's annual Public Sale Day, featuring games, giveaways and $29 tickets on sale for a slew of plays and concerts this coming fall, winter and spring.

First, the bad news: Most of the concerts you're probably interested in seeing are NOT part of the $29 ticket offer: Willie Nelson, Allman Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, Alice Cooper, Roger Daltrey, Barrage, Rob Thomas, Black Crowes, Steve Miller Band and the Australian Pink Floyd Show.

On the other hand, plenty of other shows are offering $29 tickets: Yo-Yo Ma, Joe Bonamassa, Dave Koz, Jim Brickman, Bob Newhart, Chita Rivera, the Moscow State Radio Symphony, Tony Bennett, Vince Gill, Paul Anka, Gladys Knight, Steve Lawrence, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Liza Minnelli, Engelbert Humperdinck, Bill Cosby, the Queen tribute One Night of Queen, Pat Metheny, Johnny Mathis and Neil Sedaka, plus Paula Cole at the Capitol Theater in downtown Clearwater, and several more.

Plenty of plays and musicals will offer the $29 ticket deal, too, and some of the shows whose tickets would normally cost less than $29 (like Sesame Street Live) will be offering two-for-$29 deals.

Some of these deals will save you a decent amount of money (Yo-Yo Ma's cheapest tickets normally sell for $53), some won't (Paula Cole tix normally run $31 ... woo hoo, $2!).

There is fine print, of course -- there are a limited number of $29 tickets available, and they only apply to certain seats, and they're not available for every gig.

The bottom line is, if there's a show coming to Ruth Eckerd Hall in the next few months that you want to see, you should call to see if it'll be part of Saturday's ticket offer: (727) 791-7400.

The Public Sale Day starts at 8:30 a.m. at the venue, 1111 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater. Click here for more details.
