Ryan Bingham talks T Bone Burnett, 'Crazy Heart' and smoking with The Dude
Country newcomer Ryan Bingham is 29, but the dude already sounds as if his vocal cords have been dragged through the desert of his native New Mexico. So when Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper needed someone to pen a weeper from the perspective of his movie’s broken-down singer, it made scruffy sense that he turned to Bingham, who cowrote and performed the Oscar-winning song The Weary Kind.
This Friday, Bingham tumbleweeds into Tampa’s Ford Amphitheatre as part of the Country Throwdown Tour, featuring Montgomery Gentry, Jamey Johnson, Little Big Town and more. It starts at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa. Tickets are $15-$35; click here for details.
On his way to town, the former rodeo star called Sean Daly to talk about an upcoming album with Crazy Heart collaborator T Bone Burnett, hanging at the Academy Awards with George and Leo and what he did — or didn’t — smoke with Oscar-winning costar Jeff Bridges.
