Saturday: Get your flute on at Weedon Island Preserve in St. Petersburg
Dock Green Silverhawk, above, is part Creek and part Cherokee Indian. He's been playing the flute for 20 years. On Saturday, he will be one of 20 musicians celebrating his Native American musical heritage at the Heart’s Breath Flute Extravaganza.
Anyone looking for a soothing way to melt away life’s stresses, for at least a little while, is invited to join Silverhawk from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the air-conditioned Cultural and Natural History Center at Weedon Island Preserve in St. Petersburg.
Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to Native American style flute recording artists from all over the state, and they'll have the chance to learn the basics of how to play the flute through demonstrations and an instruction class at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The free event will also feature drummers and rattlers, guitar players, and a didgeridoo player.
“Florida has some of the best Native American flute players today,” Silverhawk said. “It’s really good talent.”
