Say goodbye to Kelly's Pub in downtown Tampa

Say goodbye to Kelly's Pub, a quirky beer and experimental music bar in downtown Tampa ... and say hello to the Karma Cafe.

Kelly's is relaunching next week as the Karma Cafe, and it'll ratchet up the health-consciousness accordingly. The menu of 30-plus beers will remain, but Karma will also serve an expanded lunch and dinner menu. They say they'll serve vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free lunches, and will soon offer lunch delivery service in the afternoons, too.

"We're just kind of giving it a face lift," said new partner Melissa Peters, who will run the new joint with Anna Stracey, who bought out original namesake Kelly Cochran. "Instead of being the Scottish pub that we were, the darker beer-and-lunch-only (bar), we've decided that we're going to go with more of a healthy-choice food menu, and kind of brighten up the atmosphere and make it a more friendly place for people to come hang out, get on the Internet, have a glass of wine."

Peters said the club will still host concerts, but mostly on weekends. This Sunday's concert with Rob Osenton of the Junkyard Kings and Orlando's Stimulus Nimbus will be the final event under the Kelly's banner. Next weekend the club is relaunching with shows by D'Visitors, Gwan Johnson and the arts group Artcore on May 29, and Boon and the Luke Schwartz Trio on May 30.

The pub will be closed from May 24-28 in preparation for the relaunch.
