It’s always good to see local boys make good.

Case in point: Tarpon Springs pop-punk band Set It Off, one of the most ambitious and popular young bands in the area, has officially signed a deal with Equal Vision Records, home to artists like Say Anything, We Came As Romans, Chiodos and Eisley.

The announcement came Tuesday, though the group has known about it since early June.

“It’s been hard to keep it hushed,” said guitarist-keyboardist Dan Clermont. “It’s really exciting for us. The 25th will be three years of us being a band, and our first tour, we got kicked off and stranded in Texas with no money to get home.”

Suffice it to say, they’ve come a long way since then.

Set It Off — one of tbt*’s Ultimate Local Bands in 2010 — just released an EP, Horrible Kids, which Equal Vision will re-release, along with a new bonus track and bonus videos on Aug. 30. The deal also includes three more full-length albums, management and the opportunity to tour with some larger acts. First up: a six-date stint on the Warped Tour, including July 31 at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg.

“We had different offers from smaller labels, but we didn’t want to jump on the first opportunity to come along,” Clermont said.

You can celebrate Set It Off getting signed during a “fan appreciation” show at 6 p.m. Tuesday (7/19) at their hometown venue, the Neptune Lounge in Tarpon Springs. Bonus: The gig doubles as a birthday show for guitarist Zach DeWall. And the best part? It’s only $3. Click here for details on the gig.
