Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings coming to the Ritz Ybor

Anyone who caught Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings at Skipper's Smokehouse a couple of years ago won't soon forget it. From a review in Kick Brite Zine:

No doubt this was the best show I saw in 2008 ... Their live show is just one big dance party. It wasn't just the band -- it was the audience. ... The Dap Kings took that energy and blew it up and left a big sweaty mess towards the front of the stage. They killed it! They had to do at least three encores -- maybe there were four.

Don't believe us? Check out a clip of the sold-out performance.

If you want to relive that night, good news: The reigning queen and kings of retro soul are coming back to Tampa, this time at the Ritz Ybor. The show is set for March 19 at the Ritz. That's a Saturday night. Get excited.

Tickets are $25 and they go onsale at 10 a.m. Friday (1/21). Click here for details.

Additionally, there's something else worth noting about Jones' spring tour. In addition to their stop in Tampa, Jones and the Dap-Kings are also performing at The Beacham in Orlando on March 21.

What, exactly, is The Beacham, you ask?

The Beacham is something of a new, possibly formidable venue in downtown Orlando. Adjacent to The Social, it's a renovation of a new club that's been around since the 1920s, and in 2011 is returning to its roots as a live music venue. According to the Orlando Sentinel, it'll have a concert capacity of 1,250 -- comparable to the Tampa Theatre or Ferguson Hall at the Straz Center (but smaller than Jannus Live and the Ritz Ybor).

The first show at The Beacham is actually G. Love and Special Sauce on March 11, followed by Jones and the Dap-Kings on March 21, followed by The AP Tour with Black Veil Brides on April 25.

These are all tours that are coming to Tampa Bay as well, so it's unlikely we'll lose any tours to Orlando in the short term. But it's worth keeping an eye on.
