Sleigh Bells, Diplo coming to the Ritz Ybor in Tampa

All too often, music fans in Florida whine about bands never coming to our state. It's just so far out of the way for most tours that bands just don't want to come here.

Well, as Consequence of Sound put it today: "Florida kids, I never want to hear you complain again."

Acclaimed Brooklyn metal-pop duo Sleigh Bells -- who played a raucous sold-out show at the State Theatre in April -- will embark on an eight-date tour of Florida in February, including shows in Miami, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Pensacola, Gainesville ... and Tampa.

Sleigh Bells will perform Feb. 4 at the Ritz Ybor in Tampa, according to their website. They'll be joined by DJ and producer extraordinaire Diplo, as well as New York metal outfit Liturgy. Tickets are listed for $23-$27. Click here

The best part? This tour is taking place about a week before the release of the duo's much-anticipated second album, Reign of Terror. So we Floridians will get to hear ear-shredding new stuff before anyone else. How's THAT for an early Christmas present?

So what's with all the Florida love? Many of you might know that Sleigh Bells guitarist/mastermind Derek Miller grew up in Pahokee and came of age in , where he joined the hardcore band Poison the Well. When we talked to Miller before that show, he said he had fond memories of playing and watching shows all around his home state.

"I have some of the best memories from Vero Beach — we played the Vero Beach Women’s Center a bunch," he said. "I saw Refused there a week before they broke up. I got arrested for writing graffiti a week before Earth Crisis played Club Q. I was grounded, and I was the only one out of everyone I knew in South Florida who didn’t go see Earth Crisis. I was pissed."
