SoundBytes: Chubb Rock, Tab Benoit, Last Damn Show and more

Chubb.rock

-- The Channelside IMAX is not the sort of place we'd expect to find '80s New York rapper Chubb Rock (Treat 'Em Right, Just the Two Of Us, The Chubbster) And yet the Channelside IMAX is where he'll be at 10 p.m. July 23. It's true what they say: Chubb Rock is always in the last place you look. Tickets are $15-$25. Click here to purchase.

-- Can a concert really be called "Last Damn Show" if it takes place in August? I mean, there have to be some Damn Shows that take place after that, right? We'll soon find out if it works, because Wild 94.1 has moved its annual Last Damn Show concert from November to Aug. 28. No word on a headliner yet, but on Wild's Facebook page, there are plenty of calls for Nicki Minaj.

-- Or how about Puerto Rican rapper Tego Calderon? He's scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. July 17 at Studio Inc. in Tampa. It's part of a giant car show there that starts at 1 p.m. Tickets are $30-$50. Click here to purchase.

-- Big show at Skipper's Smokehouse on Aug. 21: Louisiana blues hero Tab Benoit will perform with Mofro's Daryl Hance. Tickets are $15-$20. Click here.

-- California metal band Bleeding Through is playing at the State Theatre on Sept. 11, according to their website. Tickets will be $15-$18.

-- And coming to the State Theatre on Sept. 22: Ludo, alongside The Graduate and Tommy and the High Pilots. Tickets are $15. Click here.

-- Man, LeBron James hasn't even officially signed with the Miami Heat yet, and already he's hanging out with Rick Ross? This cannot end well.

-- American Idols Live is canceling some concerts this summer, but Big Mike Lynch's hometown show on Aug. 4 is still on.

-- Here's a pretty amazing genre-bending show: Theophilus London with Mr. Mes, Peter Baldwin, Enzo and more, July 21 at Crowbar. Tickets are $10. Click here.

-- Top-notch Tampa prog-rockers Tides of Man is parting ways with guitarist Adam Sene -- and they're looking for a new member. So if you live in Tampa Bay, and you have a stylish appearance, an aversion to drugs, a pleasant demeanor and some chops on the guitar (it's all outlined here), then you might want to apply to join the band.

-- Sad news here: Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Louvin, who is signed to St. Petersburg's Steele Management and is a familiar presence on the local scene, is about to undergo complex surgery for pancreatic cancer on July 22. Click here for the details.

-- Speaking of country: Tickets to Rascal Flatts, Kellie Pickler and Chris Young on Sept. 25 at the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre are $39.75-$79.75, and they'll go onsale July 17.
