SoundBytes: Jeff Ross, Outasight, Foghat and more

-- Above: Violinist Kev Marcus of Black Violin tries to coach Bianca Pastrana, 12, on her trumpet during a workshop Black Violin were leading at Rampello Downtown Partnership K-8 School in Tampa on Jan. 12, the day before their performance at the Straz Center. Bianca said she was very nervous. "You don't usually get to meet famous people every day," she said. "They are extremely good at it, so we just don't want to mess up in front of them."

-- The Roastmaster General is returning to Tampa. Jeff Ross will perform at the Straz Center on March 1. The show is being billed as "Jeff Ross Roasts Tampa Bay," but we're told it'll be a straight stand-up set, with no special "roast" format. (Though we're sure Jeff Ross isn't exactly hurting for material about Florida.) Tickets start at $27.50 and they go onsale Friday at noon. Click here.

-- Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are returning to Tampa Bay, this time on Feb. 29 at the State Theatre. (But that's Radiohead Day!) Lionize will open, but they're also looking for local bands, too. Click here.

-- The always-fun pop-rockers Jukebox the Ghost will be returning to Tampa Bay on March 10, at Crowbar. Tickets are $10-$12. Click here.

-- Hope you caught Outasight's blink-and-you-miss-it performance at the 93.3 Jingle Ball in December, because he's postponed his upcoming Jan. 28 gig at Push Ultra Lounge in St. Petersburg. Why? He's performing at the NHL All-Star Game instead. Oh. Makes sense. No makeup date has been set.

-- Grammy-winning country-folk singer Suzy Boguss will perform at the Capitol Theatre on March 31; tickets are $25-$35. Click here.

-- You thought it was crazy when the Marshall Tucker Band took the stage at the head-scratching venue of Screwie Louie's Porpoise Pub in Seminole? Well, get ready for em-effing Foghat on March 25. According to their website, the Slow Ride rockers will perform there on March 25. What?

-- Tropical Heatwave on Seventh Avenue ... whoever thought we'd see the day? Yes, it looks like the Ritz Ybor will host part of Tropical Heatwave 2012 on May 12. Well, the bands had to go somewhere after the Orpheum closed.
