SoundBytes: The Roots, LoCash Cowboys, Aisha Tyler and more
-- Tonight: There's a listening party for the Roots' new album How I Got Over at the Local 662, 662 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg. Starting at 10 p.m., there will be hip-hop and R&B classics, and new stuff, followed by back-to-back spins of How I Got Over at 11 p.m., plus rarities and live tracks. At midnight, $10 gets you a CD and a poster. Click here for details.
-- Despite hosting Talk Soup and appearing on shows like Friends, 24 and The Ghost Whisperer, Aisha Tyler never quite found the right vehicle to make her a super-duper star, though she definitely deserves one. The comic will be at the Improv in Tampa from Sept. 2-5; tickets are $15-$17. Click here for details.
-- On July 16, the place to party in Tampa Bay will be the Dallas Bull. That night, the LoCash Cowboys will perform live, and there will be a bikini contest (first prize: $1,500). Doors open at 7 p.m.; cover is $5 for 21 and up, $10 for ladies ages 18-20, $15 for guys ages $18-$20. Click here for details.
-- Well, it looks like there won't be a vuvuzela night at Tropicana Field anytime soon.
-- There's an oil spill benefit this weekend at Jannus Landing called Monsters of Sludge. And next week -- July 3, to be precise -- there's a party hosted by The Basiqs, benefitting the Seabird Sanctuary and Matter of Trust. It's 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Roosevelt, 1812 N 15th St., Ybor City. It's $5 at the door. Click here for the details.
