SoundBytes: Sean Paul, the Black Keys, Constantine Maroulis and more

Sean.paul
-- Sean Paul is coming to Jannus Live. The reggaeton superstar will hit the venue on Saturday, July 10 in what promises to be maybe the first test of the venue's desire to offer a clublike party scene in addition to straight-up concerts. Click here for details.

-- The Black Keys are coming to Tampa! The incomparable blues-rock duo will open for Kings of Leon at the Ford Amphitheatre on Sept. 18, according to their website. Not only that, but The Whigs are also on the bill. This is officially now THE rock show of summer/fall, right? Click here for tickets.

--We knew Ruth Eckerd Hall's 2010-11 Broadway season will include Rock of Ages, the ode to '80s music, on Jan. 18-23, 2011. What we didn't know until today was that American Idol's Constantine Maroulis, who was nominated for a Tony during the show's Broadway run, will join the touring cast and perform at Ruth Eckerd Hall. That gives us an excuse to post a link to this video.

-- We told you Spring Hill rapper Laws was big. Now we have even more proof: He's currently touring with Talib Kweli.

-- Justin Reynolds, drummer for Tampa metal up-and-comers The Absence, was in a nasty car accident in Sarasota last week, injuring his back and neck. In a statement, the band said his position has been temporarily filled by Tampa drummer Matt Solka, and their gig Friday at Crowbar is still on.

-- Not coming to Tampa (at least not yet)? OzzFest 2010, featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, Rob Halford and Nonpoint, among others. The closest date appears to be Pittsburgh.

-- Country singer Brady Seals will perform at the Round Up in Tampa on May 21, alongside Nathan Lee Jackson and David Bradley. Tickets are $7. Click here for details.

-- Last week, we noted that British boy band JLS would be performing an acoustic set and video chat at the new Clear Channel studios in Tampa at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The appearance has been pushed up to 1 p.m., so adjust your schedule accordingly.

-- We're also told that Jason Castro will pop into the Clear Channel studio at 1 p.m. Saturday, before his gig at the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater. Click here to win tickets.

-- Verizon Wireless' "How Sweet The Sound" competition, searching for the best church choir in America, is holding auditions in Jacksonville, and any chuch choir within a four-hour drive of Jax is eligible to enter. The grand prize? $25,000. See here for details.

-- MillionYoung is playing May 27 at Crowbar, alongside Awesome New Republic, Chromatic Flights and Pop Glow. Click here for details.

-- That Phish 3D movie is getting another local screening, at the Cobb CineBistro 16 in Wesley Chapel.

-- Victor Calderone is performing a DJ set at Jackson's Bistro on May 14. For details call (813) 767-5752.

-- Finally: Congrats to one of Tampa Bay's premiere music blogs, NineBullets.net, on the one-year anniversary of their podcast!
