SoundBytes: Sugarland, Brian Regan, Steve Aoki and more
-- So, is Sugarland going all-in as a pop band now, or not? First they release that god-awful reggae song, now they're touring with Sara Bareilles? Weird. Anyway, Sugarland is coming to Orlando's Amway Center on Oct. 20. Tickets are $20-$52.50, and they go onsale May 13. Click here. (Also, we wouldn't count out a Tampa stop, too, as they only have three dates scheduled so far in October, and two are in Florida. Stay tuned.)
-- The Straz Center for the Performing Arts keeps adding comedians to its summer lineup. This time it's Brian Regan, one of the cleanest, most popular and most respected stand-ups around. He'll be in Tampa at 8 p.m. Aug. 20. Tickets start at $39.50. Click here for details.
-- Here's what we know about the Identity Festival: It's a traveling electronic-music festival, hitting 20 cities around North America, and Tampa will be one of them, on Aug. 24. We also know some of the big DJ and electronic names that'll be part of the festival throughout the summer -- Rusko, Pretty Lights, the Crystal Method, Nero, Kaskade, Steve Aoki and many more. But what we don't know is where this shindig will take place, or which artists will be at the Tampa show. So, for now, hold tight. We'll keep you posted when Identity announces more details on May 12.
-- Kudos to Tampa's Sleepy Vikings for getting some nice love on the well-read music blog Chromewaves. "Sleepy Vikings evoke the sense of ennui and melancholy that’s one of the less-celebrated aspects of being young. They sound too resigned to be called angsty, even in their more fiery moments, but with that comes an honesty and vulnerability that would have been lost if delivered with more bluster." Pretty good!
