SoundBytes: Triptico, Phish, the Original Wailers and more
-- On the eve of this year's tbt* Ultimate Music Showcase, we have some sad news to report: Last year's tbt* Ultimate Local Band winner, Latin rock trio Triptico, is breaking up. "Due to inconsolable artistic differences we have decided to step aside and pursue our personal goals instead," Gabriel Valdivia wrote on the band's blog. "The three of us are going through a transitional period in our lives and find it nearly impossible to devote the time and effort needed for a band to stay alive and exciting." You can say goodbye to the band at this Saturday's WMNF Latin Music Festival at the Cuban Club in Ybor City.
-- You'll have to drive to Orlando if you want to catch the new Phish 3D concert movie on April 30. Because at this point, it's not coming to any theaters in Tampa Bay.
-- Someday, we'd like someone to explain to us the difference between the Wailers and the Original Wailers, because we're clueless. All we know is the Original Wailers are coming to the State Theatre on May 21. Tickets are $20. Click here for details.
-- The annual Brandon Idol vocal competition is always a big deal in East Hillsborough. This year, it's part of a bigger Momentum Festival, featuring a home brewing event and much more. It all starts Sunday in Brandon Click here for the details.
-- Jannus Live's Web site is finally (sort of ) up and running. Take a look.
-- This weekend, New World Brewery is celebrating its 15th anniversary with performances by Old North East, Kelli Debbs, Chris Tolan and Friends, The Future Now and more. It's Friday through Sunday at New World. Stop by for a pint and a hearty slap on the back.
