St. Pete Times Forum ranks in North America's top 5 venues

More good news for Tampa Bay's premiere concert arena.

Two major publications have rated the St. Pete Times Forum among the top five most popular venues in North America.

Venues Today, the international trade magazine for the event facility industry, has slated the Forum as the third-highest-grossing venue in North America from Oct. 16, 2008, to May 15 of this year -- a stretch that included concerts by Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Sarah Brightman, the Eagles, Dane Cook, Fleetwood Mac, Britney Spears, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel and Elton John, and AC/DC, above.

The Forum's total gross of $25.36 million during that time ended up just behind Madison Square Garden ($34.4 million) and Philadelphia's Wachovia Complex ($27.1 million), and ahead of L.A.'s Staples Center ($24.29 million) and Atlanta's Philips Center ($24.26 million). And it was good enough to rank the Forum as the sixth highest-grossing facility in the world.

It's a slight drop in the rankings for the venue since March, when, due in part to the strong concert schedule during Super Bowl weekVenues Today slotted the Forum as the world's top-grossing venue. But it's still a strong showing.

Also, a Pollstar Magazine study ranked the top 100 venues in the world by actual ticket sales for concert events and family shows from Jan. 1 to June 30 of this year. The St. Pete Times Forum ranked fifth in the United States.

And with concerts still to come in 2009 by Metallica, Green Day, Jonas Brothers, Sugarland and Miley Cyrus, the Forum has a chance to keep the momentum going into 2010.
