Summer music festival preview: Tips on planning a trip to Bonnaroo

Last year, Soundcheck's Carole Liparoto attended the Bonnaroo Music Festival for the first time. She loved it. Click here, here, here, here, here and here for her reports on Gomez, Phoenix, the Beastie Boys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Citizen Cope, Girl Talk (above), Bon Iver, Erykah Badu, Andrew Bird and more.

Bonnaroo 2010 is still three months away, but it's never too early to start planning your trip to the East Coast's biggest annual music festival. As we mentioned here, this year's lineup includes Dave Matthews Band, Jay-Z, Flaming Lips, Kings of Leon, Stevie Wonder and Weezer.

If you're thinking of making the pilgrimage to Manchester, Tenn. for Bonnaroo, Carole rounded up some tips based on her own experiences last year, including:

-- How to get there, including tips on air travel and renting an RV

-- Where to sleep, what to bring and leave at home (hint: they do a pretty thorough search of your car when you enter, so, you know, exercise caution)

-- How to shower and engage in proper personal hygiene

-- How to keep from drowning in mud

-- How to decide who to see, and when to arrive for each show
