Talking figure skating and more with Smokey Robinson

We've made no secret here on Soundcheck of the fact that we're not wildly excited about the Smokey Robinson Tribute On Ice show next week at the St. Pete Times Forum. Smokey Robinson + Brian Boitano = synergistic FAIL.

But you know who is excited? Morningbell's Travis Atria.

The Gainesville singer (and journalist) interviewed Robinson for the St. Pete Times, and got the soul legend to open up during a recent chat.

When NBC approached Robinson about appearing in a made-for-TV figure-skating special, "of course I said yes,” Robinson said. “That’s a wonderful honor, as far as I’m concerned. I was going to skate, but I decided I don’t want to show the professional skaters up,” he added with a laugh.

The show is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the St. Pete Times Forum. Tickets are $30-$150. Click here for details.
