Tampa's Matt Hires has iTunes' Single of the Week, 'Restless Heart'
Someone in Cupertino must love Matt Hires.
For the second time since getting signed to a major label, the Tampa pop singer-songwriter has scored major love from Apple. Restless Heart, the first single from his new EP Forever, is iTunes' free Single of the Week, meaning thousands of curious music fans around the country can download it for free. You can get it here.
"Between the quicksilver strum of acoustic guitars, the floor-stomping thumps, and the roaring refrain, Matt Hires' Restless Heart treads the same muddy ground as the earnest confessionals that sent Mumford & Sons barreling up the charts," says iTunes' review, which caslls it "a piece of confident, defiant folk-rock that's calibrated to rile up the brokenhearted."
In 2009, Hires' debut album, Take Us To The Start, was similarly spotlighted on iTunes, receiving prime positioning in iTunes' digital storefront and even cracking the Top 10 downloaded albums chart. (It didn't hurt that his single Honey Let Me Sing You A Song was a minor hit, landing on TV shows and movie soundtracks. It still gets played on the air -- we recently heard it at Home Depot.)
Restless Heart and the Forever EP are only part of the big year Hires has planned. Later this year, he'll release second album This World Won't Last Forever, But Tonight We Can Pretend. And he'll spend March touring the country, opening for Matchbox Twenty. His next hometown gig can't come soon enough.
