Tampa's Studio Inc. becomes Vanity Ultra Lounge

This is no doubt old news to any of the club's regulars, but venerable Tampa hip-hop/Latin nightclub Studio Inc. has bitten the dust -- albeit in name only.

The club at 3603 W Waters Ave. has been rechristend Vanity Ultra Lounge. But reggaeton fans shouldn't fret -- the redone club is plastered with posters and banners promising an array of events that will continue in Studio Inc.'s footsteps. A rundown:

Jan. 23A "Just Jokes Comedy Show" featuring Terry Harris, Fred Ricks and Uncle Rod. Tickets are $20-$30. Click here for details.

Jan. 27A live concert featuring reggaeton artists from Don Omar Presents: Meet The Orphans. Tickets are listed at $30-$55. Will Don Omar himself be there? Well, it's not exactly clear -- the flyer says "Don Omar 'Live'!" and those extra quote marks aren't inspiring a lot of confidence. But click here for details.

Jan. 28: Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Kendo Kaponi is scheduled to appear along with our old pal Jayko-Pa. For ticket details, call (813) 857-2373 or (813) 407-0992. Click here for a promo video en espanol.

Feb. 11: The wildly popular salsa orchestra El Gran Combo -- you might have caught them at the Tampa Bay Caribbean Carnival -- is scheduled to perform on Feb. 11. For ticket info, call (813) 935-5339. Click here for details.

Studio Inc. came in at No. 74 on tbt*'s 2009 list of the 100 best bars and nightclubs in Tampa Bay. Along the recent closing of Mirage (which has taken its salsa/reggaeton scene up to the Copa Lounge), this marks a sizeable shift in the West Tampa live party scene. We'll see if Vanity Ultra Lounge can keep things rolling.
