Tonight on the big screen: 'Anvil: The Story of Anvil'

Tonight, if you feel like getting your nards rocked off, you have two choices:

1. Go see Motley Crue at Crue Fest 2 at the Ford Amphitheatre. SNOOZE.

2. Go see Anvil, the '80s metal band that some folks thought should have been bigger than Motley Crue, at the Beach Theatre.

As Stuck in the '80s noted, the rock doc Anvil: The Story of Anvil is scheduled to get its first Tampa Bay screenings this weekend, at 5 p.m. today, 8 p.m. Monday, 3 p.m. Tuesday and 5:40 p.m. next Thursday (9/3). As with all things related to the beach, you might want to call beforehand to double-check the showtimes.

Anvil is a Canadian metal collective who were beloved by Slayer and Motorhead, among others, and who've been together for some 30 years, through times lean and ... well, lean. But the documentary has sparked renewed interest in the group, and they were recently booked to open some stadium dates on AC/DC's summer tour.

The flick has earned some critical raves for being a funny, bizarre and touching testament to a life lived in rock. Worth checking out. You can see the trailer after the jump.
