Tonight: Join Soundcheck and tbt*'s 2012 Ultimate Local Artists at Rock the Park in Tampa!

In case you haven't seen it, this weekend's edition of tbt* is something we're calling our "$5 Issue" -- a guide to all the fun, fabulous and fantastic things you can do in Tampa Bay for $5 or less.

One of those things is tonight. We're partnering with the folks behind Tampa’s monthly Rock the Park concert series for a free concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa. Four of the best artists from our recent 2012 Ultimate Local Music Guide will perform in the park’s Kiley Gardens.

Sleepy Vikings have an acclaimed sound they call “southern shoegaze” that has taken them on tour around the country and out to South by Southwest. The Groves have an earthy, blues-rocky sound reminiscent of My Morning Jacket and the Black Keys. Drake and Sofia (above) play indie pop that’s driving yet delicate, and still catchy as all hell. And longtime Tampa troubadour Crash Mitchell returns to the local stage with his usual collection of anthemic cowpunk singalongs.

The tentative band schedule:

Drake and Sofia: 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.
The Groves: 7:30 to 8 p.m.
Crash Mitchell: 8:15 to 8:45 p.m.
Sleepy Vikings: 9 to 9:30 p.m.

For more details, click here. We’ll be there. And you know why? At less than $5, the price is just right.
