Tonight in Tampa: The Black Lips

When you consider the Black Lips’ onstage antics (releasing live chickens, guy-on-guy liplocks, playing instruments with the naughty bits, and so on), it’s saying a lot that the music remains the most interesting part.

The Atlanta-based Lips sound like a '60s garage-punk greaser gang, like the White Stripes covering the Hollies, with more pop and less fuzz. Check out their wholly unique sound when they play with Gentleman Jesse and His Men at 7 p.m. at the Orpheum, 1902 Republica de Cuba Ave., Ybor City. Tickets are $12. (813) 248-9500.

And don't forget: The Amanda Palmer show tonight at the State Theatre is going to be a pretty hot one, too.
