Top 10 Tampa music stories of 2011, No. 10: Lady Gaga takes over Tampa
We knew months in advance that Lady Gaga’s concert on April 16 at the St. Pete Times Forum was going to be one of the biggest concerts of the year. But it turned out her trip to Tampa was one of her most dissected appearances of the year.
First, there was the show itself. Reviewers called it an “eye-popping party,” “a huge love fest between Gaga and her fans,” and “a pretty awesome dream that I am so grateful is reality.” Afterward, she stopped at the Kennedy in Tampa for an impromptu performance of her new single Judas — remember, this was all just a few days before her massively anticipated album Born This Way hit stores. Then she stuck around in Tampa for a day, apparently so she could watch Iron Maiden at the St. Pete Times Forum. She tweeted a photo of herself with Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain. Both the photo and a video clip of her at the Kennedy went viral.
It wasn’t quite as crazy as Lil Wayne going skateboarding at the Skatepark of Tampa. But it was still one of Tampa Bay’s best celebrity weekends of the year. Not bad for a gal who used to play small clubs in Ybor City, huh?
