Top 10 Tampa music stories of 2011, No. 9: Set It Off gets signed

It was a big year for former tbt* Ultimate Local Artists:

-- Marksmen went on tour with Eisley.

-- Geri X was spotlighted in the Bulgarian edition of Rolling Stone.

-- Alexander and the Grapes toured with Tampa pal Matt Hires.

-- GreyMarket relocated to Kansas City.

But the biggest local-band story of the year might be Tarpon Springs pop-punk outfit Set It Off signing to Equal Vision Records, home to such artists as Say Anything, We Came As Romans, Chiodos and Eisley. It’s a huge break for a local band, especially one as hardworking and locally popular as Set It Off. The deal included a release of their EP Horrible Kids, plus management, future album deals and a six-date stint on the Warped Tour. If they are to become the next national band to break out of Tampa Bay, we can say we knew 'em way back when.
