Trombone Shorty, Dickey Betts, Jonny Lang lead 2013 Tampa Bay Blues Festival lineup
Why make 'em wait? That seems to be the M.O. of the Tampa Bay Blues Festival, which has already unveiled its lineup for 2013's event, scheduled for April 12-14 at Vinoy Waterfront Park in St. Petersburg.
N'awlins bandleader Trombone Shorty, former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts and blues whiz Jonny Lang lead the bill for the 2013 Tampa Bay Blues Festival. Tab Benoit, Curtis Salgado, Lucky Peterson, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers and the Royal Southern Brotherhood featuring Mike Zito, Devon Allman and Cyril Neville will also be on hand. While it's a more than solid slate, local blues fans might be scratching their heads over why organizers went with two headliners, Trombone Shorty and Lang, who also headlined in 2011. Not only that, but Lang is scheduled to play Vinoy Park's Ribfest in November. It makes you wonder whether festival attendance might dip in 2013. But the presence of Betts and Devon Allman should ensure a hearty turnout of Southern rock fans.
Through Dec. 31, tickets to the Tampa Bay Blues Festival are $30 per day or $75 for the weekend. VIP tickets are $125 per day or $325 for the weekend. And as always, the fest will hold after-shows in the more intimate Palladium, featuring acts like Salgado, Peterson, Janiva Magness and others. Those shows are $20 apiece.
