UPDATE: Dr. John coming to the Palladium, not the Tampa Theatre
Earlier this week, we posted a note about Dr. John coming to the Tampa Theatre. Turns out we jumped the gun.
The Louisiana funksmith will not play the Tampa Theatre on Nov. 5, but he WILL play the Palladium in St. Petersburg. Everything appeared lined up for the Tampa venue -- Pollstar reported it, the promoter told us it was happening, venue officials were working to confirm it -- but alas, the contracts could not be finalized.
Apologies if we got anyone's hopes up about the good doctor coming to the Tampa Theatre. But the Palladium will still be a nice venue. Tickets are $35-$45, and they go onsale at noon Friday. Call the box office at (727) 822-3590 for more info.
Our original blog post, as written earlier this week, appears after the jump.
It's been a while since a big concert has come to the Tampa Theatre, so it's nice to see Louisiana funksmith Dr. John will soon pay the venue another house call.
The gumbo-fied blues-rock legend will play Tampa's historic cinema house on Nov. 5, according to Pollstar.com. Promoter Frank Giglio of SoundStage Live says tickets will be $45, $40 and $35 across the board, and go on sale later this week.
"With its creepy gothic charms and shadow-casting lamps, the spectacular Tampa venue just might be the perfect place to host the wild man born Mac Rebennack," Daly wrote. "In fact, if you include the skull sitting on Dr. John's long, black piano -- and don't you know dem bones were staring straight into the energetic crowd of 776 -- the night had the feel of a seance."
This sounds like a show not to miss.
