UPDATE: George Strait coming to the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa
You would be hard-pressed to find an artist in this country who is more beloved, more popular and less understood by the mainstream media than George Strait.
You'd think a guy with nearly 60 No. 1 singles and 70 million albums sold wouldn't be that hard to understand. But Strait, as they say, is Pure Country. He's never really had a crossover smash. People who don't follow country music all that closely might not be able to name two George Strait songs. Many probably couldn't name one. The AV Club devoted a story to this very phenomenon last year.
But make no mistake, Strait is about as legendary a country artist as there will ever be, and one of the most popular artists to ever don a cowboy hat and jeans. And in less than three months, he's coming to Tampa.
Strait announced a slate of tour dates today that'll bring him to three cities in Florida in 2011 -- Tallahassee on Jan. 27, Jacksonville on Jan. 28 and Tampa's St. Pete Times Forum on Jan. 29. Joining him are two other hugely successful country artists, Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack.
The announcement is hot off the presses, so we're still waiting on ticket details, but we'll relay them when we get them.
***UPDATE*** Tickets are $39.50-$89.50, and they go onsale Saturday, Nov. 20. Click here for details.
We can see your mind working -- you're thinking tickets to this show would make an excellent Christmas gift. Words of the wise: Get 'em early. This tour has been a blockbuster all year, and we'd be surprised if it doesn't sell out well in advance.
