UPDATE: The Hold Steady at Jannus Landing: Postponed!
UPDATE: The Hold Steady has rescheduled its free concert for July 2 at the Ritz Ybor. Go here to get all the details. The original story about the concert's postponement is after the jump.
They may throw killer parties in Ybor City, but the Hold Steady are delaying their trip to St. Petersburg.
The Hold Steady have postponed their free, Jim Beam-sponsored concert at Jannus Landing, according to the folks with Jim Beam.
A Beam Global Spirits spokeswoman said the delay was related to scheduling conflicts involving the band and compay, but that they were still hoping to bring the band to Jannus Landing or another venue in Tampa Bay sometime this summer.
"We're in the middle of booking a new date," said Kristen Phillips of Beam Global Spirits. "It's definitely still happening."
Phillips said the recent arrest of Jannus Landing honcho John C. "Jack" Bodziak on tax charges had nothing to do with the concert postponement.
At least it was a free show, so, you know, no refunds necessary. Phillips said all existing tickets and Web printouts will be good at the future show, "whenever and wherever it is."
Two guys that are no doubt bummed over the postponement: L. Cave McCoy and Mike Gargiulo of GreyMarket, a Tampa duo with an incendiary live show that had been picked to open for the Hold Steady.
"If it does happen, I have no idea if we'll be opening for it," said McCoy, whose band has a few other concerts scheduled around the country this summer. "The only real disappointment is, it kind of sucks having to go back to all the people we were trying to get the word out to, to make sure they don't show up. We had somebody that was booking a hotel to come down, and we were like, 'No no no no no, you don't want to do that!'"
