Vampire Weekend coming to Hard Rock Live in Orlando
Woot! October is officially shaping up to be the best month EVARRR in Tampa-Orlando music.
You got Yeasayer at the State Theatre on Oct. 4; The National at the House of Blues on Oct. 6; the Flaming Lips at Jannus Live on Oct. 13; and Matt and Kim at the State Theatre on Oct. 15. And let's not forget Yo Gabba Gabba at the St. Pete Times Forum on Oct. 30!
And now this: According to their website, Vampire Weekend is coming to Orlando's Hard Rock Live on Oct. 11. The much-blogged-about Beach House will open. Tickets are $35-$40, and they go on sale Saturday. Click here to purchase.
Okay, yeah, fine, Vampire Weekend is kind of an indie-rock punchline at this point. They're the poster children of the blog-rock era, the Brooklyn band who got so much hype they landed on Saturday Night Live and the cover of Spin before their debut album even came out. They've been called yuppie snobs, culture-biters, overpraised preppies, undeserving rock stars and -- worst of all -- Paul Simon ripoffs. The horror!
We'll admit, we could take or leave their 2008 self-titled debut, and we have taken our own shots at Vampire Weekend in the past. But this year's Contra is one of our favorite albums of 2010, no frontin'. Giving Up the Gun, Run, Holiday, Cousins -- we are powerless to their dangerously high concentrations of fun-loving awesomeness, and we are not ashamed to admit it.
Oh, and get this: In addition to their show in Orlando, Vampire is also in Miami on Oct. 13 ... and so far, there are still some open dates around then. Which means there's still plenty of time for a venue like, oh, say, the Ritz Ybor or Jannus Live or Tampa Theatre to reach out and start booking.
