Weekend poll: Jacuzzi Boys vs. 'Hot Tub Time Machine'
We interrupt your daily Internet-smurfings with a Very Important Question: Where would you rather be this weekend, watching the Jacuzzi Boys at Crowbar, or at the new John Cusack movie Hot Tub Time Machine?
In one corner, we have Miami garage rock trio the Jacuzzi Boys, who play a '60s-inspired haze of fuzzy, happy-go-lucky surf rock, sort of like their fellow SoFla buzz band Surfer Blood. Quoth Pitchfork: "There's something warm and swampy and, at the same time, slick and air-conditioned, about the Boys -- something distinctly Florida." Hooray! They play at 9 p.m. Friday at Crowbar, alongside Tigercity and the Fresh and Onlys.
In the other corner, we have Hot Tub Time Machine, a movie that stars a magical hot tub that transports four buddies back in time to the '80s. Yes, we know, it's the oldest cinematic trope in the book. But the cast (Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke) seems capable of tickling America's Funny Bone. Plus it has an abnormally high rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and our own '80s expert Steve Spears gave it a B.
So: It's Friday night, and you've got $9 bucks burning a hole in your cargo shorts. What are you going to spend it on?
We haven't faced an issue this critical since the great Flying Snakes-Snakes on a Plane debate of 2006, so please vote carefully.
Bonus question: If any of the actual Jacuzzi Boys are reading this, would you rather be IN the Jacuzzi Boys, or in Hot Tub Time Machine? Please leave your answer in the comments.
