Welcome to Video Week: Have Gun, Will Travel, 'Salad Days'
Loyal readers of Soundcheck know that every morning, we feature a brand-new Artist of the Day, spotlighting some of Tampa Bay's top local artists. This week, we're trying something a little different.
Over the past few months, a handful of noteworthy local artists have released glossy, well-produced music videos. We want to showcase this side of the Bay area music scene, too. So all week, we'll be sharing some of the clips that have been piling up in our inbox.
First up: Bradenton's Have Gun, Will Travel, who have emerged as one of the most popular artists in the area. One of tbt*'s 2009 Ultimate Local Bands, they've racked up scores of festival appearances, opening slots and more under their belt. It was only a matter of time before they released a video, and in December, they did just that, for the track Salad Days.
Produced by Andrea Alamo and Mark Luttman, the clip showcases HGWT's folksy, shuffling alt-country ballad with images of singer Matt Burke driving around Bradenton and performing on a waterside dock. It's a love letter to the group's hometown. (Side note: What is it about the city of Bradenton that inspires such loyalty among its musicians? Between Salad Days and We The Kings' This Is Our Town, Bradenton is getting way more hometown love than Tampa or the 'Burg. What gives?)
Also of note: One of HGWT's most popular songs, Blessing and a Curse, has been licensed for use in a commercial for Chevrolet. And recently, it was also featured in a commercial for GTE Federal Credit Union. You can check out the spot after the jump.
