Westbound Train's trailer stolen; Florida gigs canceled
Well, here's an excuse you don't see every day. Boston ska outfit Westbound Train has canceled all but four of their upcoming concerts -- including gigs at the Orpheum in Ybor City on Sept. 16 and Orlando's Social on Sept. 17 -- because their gear trailer got stolen.
"It contained instruments, equipment and ALL of our CDs/merchandise," the band writes on their MySpace blog. "Also, upon leaving for our spring tour our van died beyond repair. Needless to say, we are in a tough spot. Without a van, trailer, our equipment, and merchandise, we cannot afford to stray far from home."
Yeah ... it does seem like all that stuff would be necessary for a tour.
The band is working on a way to solicit PayPal donations from fans to help replace the stolen goods, and a promoter says they hope to reschedule a Tampa Bay show at some point.
In the meantime, promoters are still trying to move forward with a show featuring the openers, the Duppies and the Redliners, and possibly one other band. Not many tickets have been sold so far, but if anyone is interested, refunds are available at point of purchase.
