Who says journalists don't know how to rock?

Not to sound like company men, but please allow us a brief minute to reiterate something Sean Daly blogged about yesterday.

On Sunday, a slew of tbt* and St. Petersburg Times musicians will play a daylong concert at Skipper's Smokehouse to benefit photojournalist Steve Coddington and his family.

The long and short of it: In April 2008, Steve's wife Marian suffered a brain aneurysm, and though she's been rehabbing ever since, Steve has been left to care for her and their two children, ages 4 and 7. But earlier this year, their insurance company decided to deny the family further coverage. You can read more about the Coddingtons' ordeal here.

Some of Steve's friends at tbt* and the St. Pete Times are not only journalists, but musicians -- and talented ones, at that. Many of the names on Sunday's bill will be plenty familiar to local music fans, and all of the artists are worth seeing live.

You like punk? Try Car Bomb Driver, one of Tampa Bay's best punk bands, featuring ad layout man Dave Reeder on vocals. You want quirky indie pop? Try Super Secret Best Friends (reporters Stephanie Hayes, Alex Zayas and Emily Nipps, above), who have played venues like New World Brewery and the Emerald. You want hippie rock? Check out Skipper's faves Uncle John's Band, featuring Dan DeGregory -- husband of Pulitzer Prize winner Lane DeGregory -- on drums.

That's just the tip of the iceberg; in all, 10 acts will take the stage. (Get a full lineup after the jump. Your humble Soundcheck editor would be there, too, but tragically, his mouth harp is in the shop. Bummer.)

There's a suggested donation of $10 at the gate, and there will be plenty of raffles and items up for silent auction, including Rays tickets, artwork, gift certificate and snorkeling and sailboat expeditions.

The show starts at 4 p.m. You can get all the details here.
