The Wiggles, Miranda Cosgrove added to Rays Summer Concert Series
Um, okay. This, we were not expecting.
The Tampa Bay Rays have added two more names to their roster of free postgame summer concerts, and it's clear that they're gunning for a younger fan base. Much younger. Like, T-ball younger.
Australian kiddie pop sensations The Wiggles will perform following the Rays and St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, July 3. And Disney princess Miranda Cosgrove -- most recently seen performing at the Tampa Theatre in February -- will take the centerfield stage on Saturday, Sept. 3. (She's the second Miranda to be added to the 2011 Rays Concert Series, following Miranda Lambert.)
Now, remember, in recent years, the Rays have booked the likes of ZZ Top, Adam Lambert, Flo Rida, John Fogerty, Nelly and Daughtry. Not that we're saying The Wiggles and Ms. iCarly aren't huge names in their own right -- they certainly are, especially in that coveted demographic between the ages of 4 and 12 -- but we imagine this announcement might come as a surprise to casual, adult fans who enjoy the Rays' free postgame concerts.
That said, both of these acts will draw a ton of families. Maybe with their sluggish start, the Rays are hoping that'll drum up ticket sales.
Here's the most up-to-date Rays Summer Concert Schedule (with a few more acts still to be added):
April 30 (Rays vs. Los Angeles Angels): REO Speedwagon
May 14 (Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles): Darius Rucker
July 3 (Rays vs. St. Louis Cardinals): The Wiggles
Aug. 6 (Rays vs. Oakland Athletics): Goo Goo Dolls
Sept. 3: (Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles): Miranda Cosgrove
Sept. 24 (Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays): Miranda Lambert
