(With the Vans Warped Tour coming to St. Petersburg's Vinoy Park on July 26, we're spending this week getting to know some of the women on punk's most pop-friendly summer tour. Today: Maria Brink, singer for energetic screamo band In This Moment.)

Age: "I’m old enough to have a kid," she laughs.

Hometown: Albany, N.Y.; she now lives in Los Angeles.

Their sound: Melodic, energetic metal with punk and screamo elements.

Albums: The Dream (Ultra Violet Edition), a deluxe re-release that came out June 30.

You’ll dig them if you also like: Taking Back Sunday, Killswitch Engage, My Chemical Romance, Lacuna Coil. Also, Brink sings a little like Pat Benatar.

Her story: A mom at 15, a Los Angeles transplant at 22, a Playboy model at 31, In This Moment singer Maria Brink has already lived the full life of a rock star.

"We’ve gotten to do Ozzfest twice; we got to do the mainstage in 2008 with Metallica," Brink said by phone recently. "We got to tour with Ozzy Osbourne and Megadeth and Five Finger Death Punch and Papa Roach. Now we’re doing Warped Tour, and maybe we’ll get to do Mayhem. We just try to work really hard and be really professional, and make a name for ourselves."

Mission accomplished in the metal world, where the buxom, tattooed Brink is one of the thrasher scene’s premiere sex symbols. Not so much in the world of Warped, where fans’ tastes lean more toward pop and punk.

"It’s completely different than anything we’ve ever done," Brink said. "These kids, they don’t read Revolver magazine and Metal Hammer. They read AP. It’s a whole other scene. It’s really good for us to have 13-year-old girls that we wouldn’t necessarily see at Ozzfest learning who we are."

In This Moment’s pounding cover of Blondie’s Call Me is no doubt winning some the band new fans. "I just thought it would be really cool to put our own little twist on it," Brink said. "It felt like a good summer song."

Rock mama: Brink’s son is 16, a rising high school junior and a stud football player. "Nobody can ever believe he’s my son," Brink laughed. "People think he’s my boyfriend. If you met us, you’d laugh." Sometimes he joins the band on tour, and he’s met up with Brink a few times at Warped stops this summer. Brink said she sometimes thinks about being a mom whenever she’s considering a racy photo shoot. "When I did Playboy, everyone kept asking me, would you go topless?" she said. "I don’t think there’s anything wrong with nudity with women, but I obviously would never do that. Can you imagine my son having Playboy pictures all over the locker room wall?"

Speaking of racy photos: Brink isn’t shy about using her feminine charms to promote the band. "I’m comfortable with my own sexuality," she said. "I was never a very conservative person, which I guess you can tell from looking at me, with my tattoos, and even with the type of music I do. But I don’t push it too far. Once in a while, if I have a photo shoot, and they’re trying to make me sexy, sometimes I won’t even be in that mindframe, and I won’t want to. And I’ll get mad and say, ‘We gotta do something else. I’m feeling more artsy today,’ or ‘I’m feeling a bit more aggressive; let’s do something on the darker side.’ It just depends on my mood."

If she could spend an hour one-on-one with any musician, it would be ... "For dead people, Jim Morrison. For alive people, probably Chino (Moreno) from Deftones, because he’s just my favorite singer ever, and has always been. If I could collaborate with anyone, or work with somebody, or even be produced by someone vocally, it would be him. And Jim Morrison is just a legend to me. He had no boundaries. He didn’t care about what people thought. He was just a 100 percent artist. Of course, he was on drugs sometimes, or drunk, but he was very inspiring to me as a poet. He’s like a legend to me."
