Flaming Lips lead 2014 Gasparilla Music Festival lineup
The Gasparilla Music Festival is two for two in producing an affordable, musically diverse and universally acclaimeed event. In 2014, the festival is expanding to two days, March 8 and 9 -- and based on the initial lineup announced Friday, it's looking like they might go three for three.
Oklahoma freak-rockers the Flaming Lips will headline the first night of GMF 2014, and they'll be joined throughout the weekend by indie rockers Delta Spirit, singer-songwriter Jason Isbell, roots guitarist Anders Osborne and Venezuelan collective Los Amigos Invisibles.
The announcement was made Friday night during GMF's inaugural Gasparilla Music Fridays, a new monthly music series at the Grand Central at Kennedy. More additions to the lineup will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
The Flaming Lips are the biggest, most festival-appropriate headliner in the Gasparilla Music Festival's short history. Three-time Grammy winners, their live shows are known for costumed characters, cannons of confetti and singer Wayne Coyne surfing the crowd in a giant hamster ball. Curtis Hixon Park may not know what hit it.
Two-day early-bird tickets are still on sale for $40; VIP tickets are currently $150. For details, click here.
