Iron and Wine coming to the Straz Center in Tampa
Long before Bon Iver's Justin Vernon hiked up to that cabin in the woods, Iron and Wine's Sam Beam was the bearded bard of sad-bastard indie music.
The South Carolina-born, Florida-raised Beam entered indie-rock fans' consciousness with his whispery, mumbly Sub Pop debut The Creek Drank The Cradle in 2002 before hitting Peak Millennial Indie when their cover of the Postal Service's Such Great Heights appeared on the Garden State Soundtrack.
But a funny thing has happened over the last couple of years: Sam Beam got happy! Well, happy-ish. Iron and Wine's two most recent albums, Ghost on Ghost and Kiss Each Other Clean, feature plentiful moments of jazz, pop and feel-good folk. Think Paul Simon or Dave Matthews.
That's why we're excited that Iron and Wine are coming back to Tampa Bay for the first time in years. Beam and his vastly expanded band will come to the Straz Center in Tampa on Feb. 26. Tickets are $34.50-$44.50, and they'll go on sale Friday. Click here for details.
